Civil Information Assurance Products and Services Co-ordination Group (CIPCOG)
September 27th, 2007
Gosforth Park Hotel
Newcastle, UK

link to event page >

Cloakware will be exhibiting and presenting at the 10th CIPCOG event, where the theme will be Trusted Computing.

Creating a trusted computing environment in the data centre is desirable. It enables the automated authorization and authentication of applications. By establishing strong roots of trust in your physical devices and binding your applications to them, you can eliminate human interaction with and knowledge of critical data and operations in your business systems. However, despite these benefits, trusted computing introduces new risks to consider.

This session discusses the growing false sense of security in trusted networks and the risks associated with dissolving network perimeters and the increased use of contractors and outsourcers. It then discusses strategies to reclaim a trusted environment for your critical business applications through the use software node-locking, software hiding, and software diversity and renewability.

If so, learn how secure, centralized password management addresses these risks.

Attend this complementary webcast and you will:

  • Gain insight into the risks created by hard-coded application and privileged passwords
  • Learn the challenges associated with managing these types of passwords
  • Discover Cloakware Server Password Manager, a new software solution offering secure, centralized management of application-to-application (A2A) and privileged passwords

Software Security Summit
April 16th, 2007, 11:00 a.m.
San Mateo, CA

link to event page >

Duration: 1 hour

Mark Hearn, Product Manager for Cloakware Security Solutions, presents “Software Protection: Making Software Self-Protecting”.

Most of today’s systems depend on some combination of trusted people, processes, platforms, and products to create an environment in which programs can execute with relative safety. How do you protect the logic of programs and the data they process on systems that are “out in the wild”? How do you enforce security policies on systems where the attackers have complete physical access, and may even have the ability to rewrite or replace portions of the underlying operating system?

In this session, Mark describes how to protect intellectual property in source code and in data, and how to ensure “integrity of processing.” He reviews the current state of practice and applied research in data and key hiding, software tamper-resistance, and software self-protection.

The Financial World of Information Technology
March 29th, 2007, 3:00 p.m

Robert Grapes, Enterprise Solution Specialist, is presenting “Securing the Financial Data Center: Lessons Learned in Data Center Password Security”. Financial services organizations have spent millions of dollars tackling the user/access control issue but few have addressed the critical issue of managing passwords used within their datacenters by administrators and unattended applications. These elevated privilege passwords protect the crown jewels of any organization – the data – and must be managed. This session highlights the “lessons learned” – including the elimination of password sharing, eliminating the costs of application maintenance, and changing passwords regularly – by leading financial institutions when it comes to safeguarding the most critical passwords in their organization.

Product management is a key enabling function for companies to realize profit and growth from its product offerings. For senior management, important and interrelated decisions need to be made and implemented to setup the product management function – and related functions - for success. Decisions relating to organization structure, roles and responsibilities, performance measurement, communications, processes and tools, and change management are essential.  Furthermore, as the company’s products, markets and technologies evolve, these decisions often change.

In this Executive meeting, Greg Coticchia, the Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Cloakware in Vienna, VA, presents "Creating, Managing and Evolving the Product Management Function". Greg will share his strategies, techniques and lessons learned with making the product management function work effectively. "Content Protection in the Digital Home" is presented by Alec Main, Cloakware's CTO, and Patrick Griffis, vice chair of the Digital Living Network Alliance and director of Worldwide Media Standards for Microsoft.

The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is in the process of finalizing guidelines for link protection that define methods to allow protected content to flow between DLNA compliant devices in the home network. The DLNA network architecture greatly enhances the flexibility of enjoying both personal and commercial content throughout the home, and the market for DLNA compliant home networking devices is expected to expand with the capability to handle both these types of content. The DLNA Link Protection Guidelines will help manufacturers improve device interoperability in the case of protected content. However, we note that there are other aspects of content protection, such as robustness, that will have an impact on product implementation but are beyond the scope of DLNA. This panel will review the latest status of DLNA Content Protection guidelines.

ITFMA's World of IT Financial Management Conferences
June 16th, 2006
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort
Orlando, FL

link to event page >

Robert Grapes, Cloakware’s Enterprise Solutions Specialist, presents “Financial Institutions with Double Standards are Exposed!”.  The problem with financial institutions in America is that while user password management practices and policies are being automated and strictly enforced, Auditors and IT groups knowingly allow database application passwords to remain shared amongst the development group, remain unchanged, remain hard-coded and in the clear. This leaves personal information in the hands of many people who have access to this information. New legislation does not distinguish between an internal or external attack and the “trusted network” can no longer be an excuse. All identities must be managed to ensure security and protect privacy. Robert will use real world examples to explain why traditional user-centric approaches to password management do not apply, and how to protect and secure identities.
